Sal spoke about “Silly…”
that suffering and the sense of separation is silly?
NotebookLM:
Salvadore Poe does indeed say that falling for the phantom story of the separate self and being thrown around by it is “silly really”.
In Episode 125, he uses a theater analogy to explain why this is:
- Shadow and Light vs. The Screen: He compares the “rising I” (with all of its past and future stories, worries, hopes, and fears) to a movie projected on a screen. Just like a movie, this separate self is made only of “shadow and light” and has no actual substance. The only real, enduring substance is the screen itself, which is your pure aware being.
- The Discernment of “Silly”: Once you develop the discernment to see the difference between actual being (who you really are) and the phantom story, you realize how silly it is to let your entire experience of life be dictated by something that has no real substance.
- No Fault or Blame: Poe quickly points out that while it is silly, “there’s no fault”. This is how human consciousness has functioned for ages simply because we didn’t know any better.
- No Need to “Kill” the Illusion: Because the ego/separation is just a shadow, you don’t actually need to destroy it or “kill the ego” to be free. Once you genuinely know that your root is pure aware being, the rising phantom is no longer a problem. You don’t have to stop thoughts or stay on holiday 24/7; you can simply let the phantom come and go, knowing it cannot harm the screen of your true being.
🎧 I can create a brief audio overview focusing on Sal’s teachings on why we don’t need to “kill the ego” to find peace, if you’d like to listen to this concept more deeply.
